Up Next: Carmel (1-0)
The Good:
The offense overall looked good. Schurr really seemed to settle down after the first quarter, and the wide-out tandem of Birck and senior Andrew O'Sullivan looked promising. Duguid looked solid coming out of the backfield too. Carmel also took a lot of penalties in their first game of the season against St.Charles East, but that's pretty much their only weak spot at this point in the season.
The Bad:
The Wildcat defense did not look very good against Barrington. They'll need to play considerably better against Carmel. The Corsairs run a triple option offense, which is entirely based on running the ball. The Wildcats couldn't stop the run against Barrington. Carmel's running back Jordan Kos lit up the Wildcat defense last season's game. Lord only knows what he's gonna do to the WIldcats' defense this time around. Kos and the Corsair offense also churned out 576 yards of total offense against St.Charles East. However St.Charles East is a pretty weak team. The 576 yards of offense manufactured by Carmel might be more of a statement of how bad St.Charles' defense is rather than one about the strength of Carmel's offense.
The Ugly Truth:
The Wildcats looked beyond rusty for a good chunk of the first half against Barrington. The offense shook its rust off after Barrington's explosive first quarter and preformed pretty well, but the defense did not. The defense needs improve fast or Carmel's going to run them into the ground. Literally.
