The theme for this year’s senior week is “Eyes Wide Open,” and the hope is that those graduating this year go into life “aware of and excited for the changes that are coming up in their lives,” said Amy Belstra, CRC counselor, in an email.
- Day 1, Monday, April 17: “Yes Means Yes: What Consent Really Means”
- A little something to know about life: “No.” is a complete sentence. It doesn’t require any justification or explanation.. Listen to a survivor of rape talk about the dangers for men and women in college. The purpose of this event is to make sure all students know the dangers of rape, how to avoid it and how to deal with it. This is the first year LHS is talking about this topic, but, Belstra said, it is never too early to start the conversation.
- Day 2, Tuesday, April 18 : “The College Lifestyle”
- Almost every question under the sky is answered when it comes to college. Find out about Greek life, social life, time management and how to do it all on your own for the very first time.
- Here are some suggested questions to ask at this session:
- How do I manage my money so I don’t go broke?
- How do I know who to talk to if I need help?
- How do I know who to trust?
- Is there a way to make being away from home easier?
- How do I stay on top of my homework while still having a social life?
- Is rushing and initiation as scary as everyone thinks it is?
- Where do I find a list of things I need for college?
- How do I figure out what I want to do for the rest of my life?
- How do I even achieve that?

- Day 3, Thursday, April 20: “Roommates & Relationships”
- From setting the stage for a great friendship between you and your roommate, meeting new people along the way and managing a relationship in college, there are ways to do it all. These questions, and others like it, will be answered by people who work in the admissions department at various colleges.
- Day 4, Friday, April 21: “Decision Day”
- Decision day has always been acknowledged by the seniors at LHS, but since 2011, Ms. Belstra has made it a bigger event than in years past. Seniors, join your peers in the CRC to celebrate your next chapter: pin your name on the map and take some fabulous photos.
