The boys varsity basketball team played their season opener last night against Maine West. In the fast-paced, high-scoring game, Libertyville trumped the Warriors, 91-69.
The game’s leading scorer was junior Joe Borcia, who dropped 24 points and pulled down many rebounds, which helped his team win the game.
Throughout the first half of the game, the Warriors stuck with Libertyville. The game was back and forth in terms of scoring and how well the teams played. However, in the second half of the game, Libertyville dominated Maine West in basically every aspect of the game.
With 2:30 left in the fourth quarter, a turnover by the Warriors lead to a Libertyville fast break. Senior Jack Lipp had the ball and only one defender to beat. He stopped near the basket and passed the ball to his teammate, senior Steven Braun. Braun jumped in the air and dunked it over the defender. With all the fans on their feet and cheering, Libertyville stormed ahead and won the game handily.
