Choir holds annual Cabaret concert
On Thursday, Feb. 27, Libertyville High School’s choir program performed their annual “Cabaret” concert. Cabaret is a form of entertainment that features both musical and theatrical elements, and this performance featured many students showcasing theater-based songs. The concert was directed by Dr. Jeff Brown.
The choir groups came onstage in order by grade level, starting with the freshmen. Each grade performed a few songs as a group, followed by individual performances from a few duos and trios. Act I featured songs from various musicals and movies, starting off with “Seasons of Love” from “Rent”, starring soloist Gianna Cathlina.
The Cleftomaniacs also performed during the first act. They are an all-male music group who sings pop music from the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s. They sang “The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars. Also featured were the Treblemakers, an all-female vocal group. They performed “The Middle” by Zedd.
Act II started off with “Taylor the Latte Boy,” a lighthearted piece, followed by “What Do I Know” by Ed Sheeran. The Acabellas, an all-female acapella group, sang “Thank U, Next” by Ariana Grande, starring soloists Maggie Vickers and Faith Davidson.
Next to perform was the Master Singers, a vocal group that strives to cover all genres of the musical spectrum. They sang “Sorry” by Justin Bieber. The last three songs of the night were performed by the Concert Choir, ending with “High School Musical” from “High School Musical 3.”
Many students involved in this performance decided to dress up according to this year’s theme: famous groups. There were the space aliens from “Toy Story,” the Care Bears, and even the Yip-Yips from “Sesame Street.” Dressing up in costume for the yearly cabaret concert is “clearly a student favorite part of the year,” claimed junior Megan Nostrand, who’s been a part of a choir program since sixth grade. She’s currently finishing her third year as a member of LHS choir.
