Global pop star Justin Bieber was charged with drunk driving, resisting arrest, driving without a valid license and drag racing in Miami on January 23, and with this being added to his rap sheet, he is facing deportation.
Justin Bieber’s legal offenses have escalated from speeding down the streets in the early hours of the morning; he is now facing possible deportation for his sixth arrest in the past two years. A petition to revoke his green card and send him back to Canada has been signed by 100,000 people, and the number is still climbing, so the White House must legally address the issue.
The petition against Bieber states: “We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture. We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug-abusing, Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked. He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nation’s youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society.”
Although he’s had his fair share of rude behavior, rolling up to his own concerts hours late, hitting and kicking photographers that stop him on the streets, and last year’s scandal of writing in Anne Frank’s book that he thinks she would’ve been a “Belieber,” Justin Bieber’s actions have escalated with driving under the influence and endangering people around him.
Sophomore Maggie Risley says that his actions are sending the wrong messages to his fans.
“I like his music, but I don’t think he makes good choices. He has so many young girls who look up to him as a role model, and everyone watches him, so he should be more careful about what he does,” she said. “After what he’s done, I think he should be deported. His actions have consequences and he needs to just own up to what he did.”
According to CNN, after a few days of review, police have confirmed that Bieber had a mix of marijuana and prescription drugs in his system when he was arrested. Although the pills were anti-anxiety medications, which was confirmed with their high amounts of THC and Alprazolam, Justin Bieber also had weed that he was smoking the night of his arrest. When he was pulled over by officers, he was driving his sports car, and racing him in a nearby car was singer Khalil Amir Sharieff. Both were questioned, booked, and taken away by the arresting officers.
When faced with his charges at his hearing, Justin Bieber himself was not physically in the courtroom; he was in a containment facility being shown over video chat, later reasoned by his lawyer as a safety precaution. His arraignment, where his official sentencing will commence, is set for Valentine’s Day, February 14.
