The College Resource Center will host Senior Decision Day on Thursday to celebrate LHS seniors’ college acceptances.
The all-day celebration provides seniors with the opportunity to stop in the CRC to get their picture taken with their college gear, as well as placing a pin on the CRC college map to show where they will be attending next fall. Snacks and beverages will be provided to add to the excitement.
“I will definitely be sporting my new school spirit,” stated senior Olivia Blaha, who will be attending the University of Miami of Ohio. “I always loved looking at the map as an underclassmen so it will be weird to see my name up there!”
According to CRC counselor Ms. Amy Belstra, the event started in the 2010-2011 school year and has proven to be a great success over the past three years and is expected to continue in future years.
“It’s just a happy time,” stated Ms. Belstra. “You can just see that sense of relief from the seniors because they now know that they are going to college. It’s a great feeling for them.”
Seniors who have not made their decision yet are still invited to celebrate with their fellow classmates. The festivity allows students the opportunity to see where their friends will be attending college.
Senior Jake Kimpler, who is still undecided, stated, “I think it will be kind of cool going in undecided because I can base my decision on how other students made their choices.”
May 1 is the decision deadline for schools across the country. According to Ms. Belstra, roughly 70-80 percent of LHS seniors have made their decisions already, but she expects that number to increase today.
