On Friday, August 30, 2024, the Libertyville football team took their first win of the season with an outstanding 43-0 against Lemont. With a night full of cheers, touchdowns, and pink skies, community members from all over the town gathered to experience the joy of the football scene.
From the start of the game, the wildcats were set on both the offensive and defensive ends. To prove the readiness of the cats, junior Gavin Dickson (21) scored a touchdown within just minutes of the first quarter of the game, leaving Lemont completely defenseless.
“Ever since November of last season, we just wanted to make a mark for ourselves,” senior Max Frazin (68) said. “We proved that tonight.”
Senior duo Quinn Shambow (7) and Stevan Gavric (11) showed ultimate synergy throughout the game. The two pulled through two touchdowns for the cats, with Shambow passing to Gavric to complete each touchdown.
“Our execution on offense was really good,” senior Rhett VanBoening (64) said, “offensively we dominated, and defensively we knew exactly what they were going to run.”
After many attempts to fight back, Lemont senior Julius Dian (26) showed swift speed whilst running the ball; however, he was quickly stopped by seniors Everett Kendall (52) and Caleb Baczek (23).
The cats persisted throughout the game, as a 31-yard touchdown by junior Blaise LaVista (4) contributed to an ending score of 43-0.
“We answered the call to win the game,” Baczek said. “We got [crazy] out here.”
The wildcats will be back in action at Richards High School on Friday, Sept. 6.
