Clubs are an essential part of a student’s high school experience. They help students find their hobbies and are where they want to spend their time outside of school.
Not enough time
What if students don’t have the time or schedule for all of the clubs that they want to be involved in? Because of the numerous clubs that LHS offers, some clubs may conflict with others that students want to join which causes students to choose between clubs. This can be a tough decision to make.
It can also make it harder to be consistent in putting effort into attending clubs – especially if students want to rotate between clubs each week. However, having to choose between clubs teaches students to juggle their commitments and interests.
Lack of information
For many reasons, many students aren’t aware of all the clubs that LHS has to offer.
For instance, the list of clubs on the LHS website needs to be updated because it has outdated information. For some of the clubs, the Google Classroom code is outdated or not listed, making it difficult for students to find the information needed in order to join the club.
Also, some of the advisors for the clubs aren’t updated, making it hard for students to reach out to the current advisor to express interest and find out information regarding their club. In addition, some of the dates, times or locations aren’t listed either, making it difficult for students to know when or where the club meets.
Promoting clubs
In order to have students be aware of more clubs that they can join, the clubs need to be promoted better.
One way to improve this is to have a calendar for the clubs. This calendar can list all of the clubs that LHS offers and information about each club. For example, it can list the day of the week the club meets, the time of day, the time range of the club and the location of where the club meets. Furthermore, it can list the club’s social media, the club’s current Google Classroom code and give a description of what the club is about. This would be an easy and accessible way for students to be able to know more about what clubs LHS offers.
Another way to promote clubs better is to send out an email to students about the clubs that are happening that week or month with important information included about each club.
If more students are aware of all of the clubs that LHS offers, not only will clubs have better turnout, but more students will be able to have fun and get to know other students outside of the school hours.
While LHS has several different clubs that students have access to, students should take advantage of this opportunity and join more clubs. This large number of clubs allows for students to find clubs that they enjoy which could end up being their favorite part of the day or week or even the reason why they want to come to school.
