On Tuesday, October 1, the varsity girls tennis team won against the Warren Blue Devils. The win continued an undefeated season for Libertyville. The girls’ varsity team entered the match with a confident mentality.
Senior co-captain Dakota Olsen, who plays singles, gave a strong performance by winning the first set 5-2 and the second set 5-0.
“I was ready to go”, Olsen said. “I was excited for another conference match and confident in my team that we could bring home the win.”
Senior co-captain Lena Dogadalski and her sophomore sister Yuki Dogadalksi, who play doubles, gained momentum during their first set, winning 5-0. They carried this energy into the second set, also winning 5-0.
“We have to have a positive mindset and play with each other,” Lena said. Despite their win, she acknowledged that there was room for improvement.
“I think it was pretty good, but [my sister and I] still need better communication”.
The Cats played aggressively throughout their sets. Freshman Avalyn Pratt and sophomore Sofia Tatsch, who play doubles, had a close first game, winning the first set 3-2. With the help of encouraging words from girls’ varsity coach Dan Kiernan, they improved their gameplay and won the second set 5-0.
“Avalyn has been playing well in doubles, even with seniors like Dakota,” Dogadalski said.
The Cats have maintained a strong performance through rigorous and consistent training.
“We usually do a mix of drills and games for two hours,” Olsen said, “We try to make practice pretty fun,”
The Cats look forward to a successful rest of the season and plan on continuing to grow and mature.
“We’re definitely improving as the season goes on,” Olsen said. “I think we’re going to definitely have some tough opponents but still be able to bring home the wins.”
