This summer, LHS had many construction projects, including fixing the boiler plant outside the pool doors, repairing potholes in the parking lot, making the new cafeteria courtyard and adding new flooring with different colors.
The new boilers outside the pool doors will help heat the building more efficiently. Before, the school was heating water vapor; now it is going to heat water instead to improve efficiency. This project has blocked the pool doors; Assistant Director of Buildings & Grounds Mr. Chris Stancil, hopes that this project will be finished soon so that students can use the pool doors. Last year, there was an issue with the underground steam plant, so the Buildings and Grounds Department decided to replace it with an underground boiler.
Another big project over the summer was the new courtyard in the cafeteria that was built. It is bigger and cleaner than the old one and although it doesn’t have tables yet, they will arrive in about six weeks, according to Mrs. Sandra Kruckman in the Main Office. The courtyard has brick spanning the entire open area instead of having grass with a few tables, as it used to.
There were many other projects worked on recently: replacing roofs, redoing flooring, improving entrances, adding fencing, repainting the track lines and getting the solar panels running, to name a few. In addition to these projects, security was also improved. The front desk was changed because it wasn’t correctly placed, the door locks were improved and there were cameras added around the school.
