District 128 has announced that the demolition of the Brainerd building will be ready for its next stage in the process on Monday, Oct. 13.
A fence will be built surrounding Brainerd before the demolition begins, which will limit parking spaces to around 40. There are currently around 102 available spots at Brainerd according to Mary Todoric, director of communications for District 128. This is a big decrease in available spots.
“Now I have to wake up so much earlier and change my whole morning routine just so I can get a spot,” said junior Jack Meyer.
A district statement suggests that students should begin to acknowledge the new changes and plan accordingly. Alternatives to parking at the Brainerd building include: parking at Dymond, carpooling with seniors who have a parking permit, riding the school bus, or being dropped off and picked up by a parent or guardian.
“The alternatives aren’t helpful for athletes like myself because I have to be at school before the buses come and leave after the buses depart,” said junior Cameron Hays.
A finish date for the demolition has not yet been announced but there will be construction meetings taking place within the next week to discuss this, according to Ms. Todoric.
