After overcoming a difficult first set, the LHS girls volleyball team bounced back and captured the next two sets, defeating Crystal Lake South 17-25, 25-19, 26-24 to advance to the State tournament.
The game was tied at 24 in the last set, when senior Lizzie Apgar’s hit was deflected out of bounds. When the Cats lined up for their next point to serve, Crystal Lake South was called for a net violation, giving the Cats the victory.
Senior Alex Basler led the team with 10 kills and 7 blocks for the Cats. Apgar also helped the cause, adding 34 assists and two kills.
The wildcats will hope to improve on their fourth-place State finish from two years ago, as they will compete Friday against Loyola at 9 p.m. at Redbird Arena in Normal.
