For all of their lives, twins are commonly mistaken for each other, called their brother or sister’s name, or even thought of as one person. The O’Malleys, Dunsings, Ostmeyers and Beckers are just four of the many sets of twins at LHS, but how similar are each of these duos?
Sean and Kyle O’Malley
If you are looking for the O’Malley brothers, the first place to find these freshmen is in the weight room. The brothers both share an enthusiasm for sports and lifting. like football, track and field and basketball. Sean is planning on wrestling next year. The only thing they would enjoy more would be sports that require lifting. Telling the O’Malleys apart isn’t that difficult as Sean is bigger than Kyle. Big is a word that comes up often for both of the brothers, though, because they are both 6-plus footers. Other than physical differences, they share very similar personalities. They both love football, sports in general and joking around.
“[Some similarities we share are] red hair, tall, taller, pretty yolked too,” joked Sean. “We live in the same house. We have good taste in women. We are [both] Irish.”
Matt and Mark Dunsing
It’s hard to miss these two brothers walking down the hallway. Though they are sophomores, the two both stand over six feet tall and tower above many seniors. Mark and Matt Dunsing look like brothers, but as far as twins go, they don’t look too alike. The pair not only has contrasting looks, but also contrasting personalities. Mark is more reserved while Matt is more outgoing. Despite their similarities, they still have differences. For example, they are both into sports; however, Mark prefers wrestling while Matt prefers lacrosse. Mark has another side to him as well: music. Music is something Matt never fell in love with, but it is something that Mark enjoys playing and listening to. Matt admires Mark’s work ethic when it comes to his determination with music and sports.
“He is a hard worker,” said Matt. “He is a very hard worker. He doesn’t go [halfway] on anything. He goes all out with everything. If he wants something he’ll definitely put in the work to get it.”
Carly and Cassidy Ostmeyer
Juniors Carly and Cassidy Ostmeyer are an outgoing pair that can be heard from across the school and often seen playing together on the volleyball court. These two look and act the same way, making it difficult to tell them apart. Those who don’t know them well most commonly mix them up. Their similar features and personalities cause them to be, in a sense, the stereotypical twins. They believe the best way to tell them apart is by face and nose shape.
“Oh my gosh, [we get mixed up] all the time,” said Carly. “I get called Cassie at least twice a day.”
Haley and Megan Becker
The Becker sisters are some of the best athletes in the school. Whether it’s on the lacrosse field, in the high jump pit, or any other playing field, the Becker sisters are some off LHS’s finest. Though they are twins, the Beckers have little in common as far as looks. To many, the pair looks like sisters, not twins. The opposing looks are unlike their outgoing personalities. They both do have outgoing personalities but Megan is more focused on her schoolwork while Haley prefers to be social in class. Despite the fact that they have very little in common as far as appearance goes, sometimes they are confused for each other. They claim that sometimes their parents and grandparents confuse their names. Often, those who don’t know the Beckers well will confuse their names too.
“We both have similar personalities,” said Megan. “Haley is a little more outgoing in class. But around friends we have similar personalities. We both like sports. Sports are important to us.”
