As the Brainerd building continues to be deconstructed, bricks are being set aside for public sale and memorial purposes.
While there is no date known at this time on the sale, the district is aware of the logistics. “[We are] saving 2,000 face brick (Brainerd Building), 1000 face bricks (Jackson Gym) and the sandstone from the north and south side entry ways. Our plan is to use 2,000 bricks and the sandstone as part of a memorial at the Brainerd site,” commented Yasmine Dada, Chief Financial Officer of district 128.
Though the memorial for the historic building has yet to be designed, Dada added that it may be a wall or a gazebo. There is no set date for public sale of the bricks at this time, but information will be available at the district website or the district’s Facebook and Twitter accounts when more updates are known.
In addition, LHS plans to display a “volleyball Wildcat” floor piece from the old school, likely to be placed in the West Gym, according to athletic director Mr. Briant Kelly.
The piece was saved “to show a little bit of history of LHS,” said Mr. Kelly.
