The test center is now scheduling all appointments online, switching away from the old-fashion system in which students had to walk into the test center and make their appointments in person.
Students are no longer able to make in-person appointments. From a link on the LHS website, students can find the testing center’s sign-up page and circumvent an extra trip to the test center. The link is on the right side of the school’s homepage.
The decision to make appointments online was made by assistant principal Mr. Ray Albin and test center facilitator, Mr. Kenneth Gallivan. Mr. Gallivan explained that the new system will be much more beneficial to students, as it alleviates the congestion that the test center often had during passing periods and after school. This helps to eliminate the long lines that forced students to wait a long time to get their test.
Students can now look ahead to see if their desired period to take the test is available, as each period and the number of open slots is listed online. Another key benefit to the new system is that it helps students who need to make up a test for an AP class, which may require extra time.
“[The AP tests] take two periods to take, so [now] students can actually schedule for both of those hours [online], and make sure that they have their spots taken,” stated Mr. Gallivan.
The online system makes it easier to cancel appointments, along with clearing up any confusion about which teacher the test is for, which was a common problem with the old, verbal sign up procedure, Mr. Gallivan explained.
To be expected with any newly implemented system, the transition has not been without minor problems. The main hiccup has been that “students… will inadvertently schedule for a period that has already passed,” Mr. Gallivan said. This problem is a very simple fix, however, as the testing center facilitator can go in and correct the mistake.
LHS senior Addie McKenna thinks it is “a great idea that will really simplify making up tests.”
