“See I don’t think you have to necessarily be quote ‘smart’ to do math; you can work hard and be good at math. I guess smart would imply you have a natural gift, you’re naturally gifted at math; so if you are quote ‘smart’, you have a natural disposition to being good at math… Now, do you get [smart] by working hard? Yes, I think that you can earn smartness, it isn’t just always a natural gift. Therefore, to say ‘I’m just not smart at math, I can’t do math’ I don’t believe that. I believe you can do math, and get better at math, and become smarter at math even if you weren’t born with this natural gift,” explained LHS AP Calculus AB and Geometry Honors teacher Mr. Rick Brenner.
